Be careful what you say, Google is listening

In this post from Mike Cooper there is a video that shows you how your computer (Google)can listen to your conversations for unlimited amounts of time.  Important for you to check out and be aware of....

With all of the technology in our lives today, it only stands to reason that somewhere along the line, someone would be able to listen in to our conversations. It appears that Google has met that challenge.

On the Google.com page, there is a microphone on the right side of the Google search bar. If you turn that microphone on to engage in voice commands on your computer make sure you also turn it off. The microphone can stay on and record your conversations while you work.

If you're using Google Chrome, this is an issue that appears to be active. Kim Komando put out a call for caution on her daily update. Take a look below and be careful out there.

1. Buying your first home in Winchester VA

2. What to look for when buying a foreclosure in Winchester VA

3. Short Sale inventory in Winchester VA

4. Winchester, VA - The best bedroom community for the Washington, D.C. area

5. Passion is contagious - Infect somebody!

6. Winchester, Virginia is a great place to buy a house at great discount!

7. This simple electrical test could save your life.

8. Turn setbacks into springboards

9. Reduce your mortgage by pre-paying principle and eliminating interest

10. What can I do to sell my home more quickly?

Thanks for the heads up, Mike.  Agents have confidential conversations daily and this could be an issue.  We're all adjusting to this *new world*

Thanks for the re-blog, Debra!  This is just another reason why I like Yahoo and stay  with Internet Explorer or Firefox as browsers.

Good to know; I've not used it but will make sure I turn it off if I do use it!

So if the microphone is not activated, I'm ok?  I have never used voice activation...I think it's annoying!

"Could", in could be an issue, being the operative word. You have to have more going on than just having your microphone on to be in any actual danger here.

Debra: Thank goodness I have not enabled this command. It may probably be one of the things that I could have easily overlooked.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google is not only listening, but watching you as well. They can probably watch you on any device with a camera attached; laptop, desktop, tablet, and even smart phone. It's getting a little scary.
