This week I think anyone who has been using Picnik got the terrible email - They are shutting down effective April 19th. I am going to be so sorry to see them go. I am a huge user of Picasa but an even bigger user of Picnik. I went back into my posts from last year and pulled up the post I did about Lunapic. Lunapic is similar to Picnik and does just about the same things. There is a little less of a learning curve but it may take a few more steps to accomplish what you were able to accomplish in Picnik. At least for the time being until we find something else this will serve you until you do or maybe this will become your new "Picnik." Picnik I will miss you!
This week I discovered quite by accident a site called LunaPic for Photo Editing. It is a FREE site which of course caught my interest. Normally I will use Picasa or Picnik, both of which I love and use all the time. However when I tried LunaPic I decided I will be adding this to the mix as well. It offers different features that I found easier and quicker to do using LunaPic.
I grabbed a picture from my collection of neighborhood animals and then proceeded to do some fun things to the picture. It took me less than 5 minutes to change the edge of the picture, add a text bubble and some text. Now this is not what I would normally use it for but as you can see by the image above there are a lot of editing options that run along the left side and across the top. Enjoy!

Deb thanks for the heads up on Lunapic. I have Photoshop and others but simple is better in my world. I will definitely give it a shot!
Deborah, thanks for sharing... It does not seem that Google+ will have the frames and slideshow that Picnik offered, which is what got my attention in the first place. I will check Lunapic for sure.
Deborah, I've not used Picnik and will check out Lunapic. I'm a simple guy and use MS for slide shows and for image editing, I use the free program IRFANVIEW.
Debra - I would venture to say at least 50% of us on Active Rain use Picnik and this is really sad news! Thanks for letting us know about Lunapic and I'm going to work on my Picassa skills! If nothing else, I'm about to learn some new photo programs! :=(

Debra, I have used Picnik but do have Photoshop too. I will go and check out Lunapic, it might be a good, quick alternative!
I'm also going to be sad to see Picnik go. I had just warmed up to it this past year. I spent a little time yesterday, revisiting my blogs where I had used Picnik slideshows. I needed to exchange those slideshows, with others that I had created in another application, so the graphics wouldn't go away in April. I will give Lunapic a try. Thanks for the tip!
I'm not happy about this news and also did a post expressing my frustration. I signed the petiton, but not sure it will do any good. Thanks for the suggestion of Lunapic...I will check it out!

I have Photoshop, but I could accomplish in Picnik what I needed to do and be uploading the photo in my blog before Photoshop could finish opening up! Thanks for the lunapic tip. I will check it out!!

Thanks so much for the info. We are all upset about PICNIK. I tried Picasa yesterday for a couple of hours but it is not a complete editing site and you cannot add frames and stickers, at least I didn't see where you could. I have been so sad as I go to Picnik 3-4 times a day but can edit a photo in about 2 minutes flat. I will try your suggestion.

I got another email today that Picnik is definitely shutting down. So sorry to see it go! Thank you everyone for your comments. I have been using the newer version of Picasa and it does help but it definitely doesn't (yet) do all the things that Picnik did.
