Improving The Appearance Of Grease Stained Kitchen Wall Tile

Improving The Appearance of Grease Stained Kitchen Wall Tile

The wall behind the stove is especially susceptible to staining.  Smoke, grease and splatters from cooking build up over time and wall tile behind the stove can become discolored or stained.

After trying multiple cleaning products, including bleach and specialty tile cleaners,  I could not return the area behind the stove to it's original color.   I was convinced that replacing the tile was our only option.

My last hope, before replacing the tile, was consulting with a tile cleaning specialist.  I was very happy to learn that there is a product on the market that could give new life to our tile.  He suggested we pick some up at Lowe's and give it a try.

Tile Guard Enhance & Seal

Tile Guard Enhance & Seal not only enhances the color of unpolished stone tile, it also offers stain protection.  It is very easy to apply.  We applied it to all the tile and it intensified the characteristics and color throughout.

The result was a more consistent color....with the area behind the stove no longer standing out.

Enhance & Seal is for rough textured surfaces...unpolished, tumbled, flamed, and honed stone.  It can be used both interior or exterior.

Here are before & after pictures showing our results:

Sharon, it does look like a brand new tile. Thank you for the reminder. I have to re-seal my back splash and counters. I knew that I should do it at least ones each year but I think I missed couple of years now. That sealant is still sitting in my pantry. I haven't' done it because than I should wait for 24 hours and not use my kitchen, or maybe this is just an excuse ;-)

Hi Sharon ~ What a great improvement in the tile appearance!  I'm adding this product to my list of resources.  Thanks so much for the photos that show how well it works.  I read the website info and found it interesting that it works on exterior stone and on slate, too.

OMG Sharon, what a difference in the color and the lustre-gotta have this one in the toolbox-so thank you for sharing.  Glad it also works on slate!

Paddy:  I know what you mean about stainless...especially when my two year old grandsons are here!

Anna:  Sounds like an excuse to me!  Get that done...no more procrastinating.

Maureen:  You just have to read the information to make sure it works on the stone you want to use it on.  Worked great for us!

Joanna:  It looked much worse than the before picture shows...it was driving me crazy.  I really was considering replacing the tile.

Alexandra:  I'm always looking for blog material, LOL!

Roger:  Peter was very nice and so fair.  No charge for the visit, just the suggestion to go buy the product.  I took some of his cards so I could refer him the next time I have a client that needs their tile or carpet cleaned.

Woo-hoo Sharon, thanks so much for sharing this product and for the photos examples.  I have many applications that could use this.  Bookmarking for future reference.  I see another big outside project coming my way.

BTW does the package say anything about applying it with a pump sprayer outside?  I have a LONG stacked stone wall that needs it.

Sharon,

That looks great. Thanks for the heads up on this. Hopefully, it's available in Ontario.

Sharon, good to know! Our backspace was special ordered from Italy. I sealed it myself, and so far no damage, but if necessary I'll note this down.

Hi Sharon--wow, this product worked great.  I will have to see if I can find it on Maui because I definitely need to add it to my stager's kit.  Thanks for sharing this information.

Lou:  Glad you found it useful!

Ginger:  I don't know about the stone wall...nothing written on the bottle.  You can call customer service at 800-445-0619 and ask them.

Brian:  Check out the website or call them at the number I gave Ginger.  Hope you can find it.

Ellen:  You will probably never need it.  Our tile was poorly sealed.

Janet:  Hope you find it.  I love your new profile picture, it's beautiful!

Sharon- you are superwoman! I see so much of that in some of our older homes and there's no way the seller is doing anything but a little scrubbing.  This should help and I may just go out and look for it tomorrow!

Kathy:  I actually prefer the tile lighter, it's original color, but I'll take darker over stained any day.
