Saturday morning February 15, 2014, after days and days of snow and ice, we headed to Newark Airport in New Jersey for our flight to Phoenix for Keller Williams Family Reunion. As most of you know my colleague took a bad fall on the ice that day at the airport. It was almost impossible to get any type of help at the airport for her injuries. The airlines and their employees do not "get involved" in that sort of thing.
Since the odds of getting another flight were virtually nil due to all of the bad weather we got on the plane and took over a 5 hour flight with her having had no treatment at all - so she was in a good amount of pain as you can imagine. As soon as we arrived we ditched our baggage at the hotel and headed right to the hospital to have her looked at, as it appeared there were broken bones.
When we arrived at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, we had chosen this hospital simply because it was the closest to our hotel. Little did we know we had arrived at an internationally renowned Medical Center for Neurology, Heart & Lung, Center for Women's Health, the Arizona Cancer Center and a Level 1 Trauma Center among many other medical services.
We did not even sit down, we were immediately directed into the emergency area where within seconds my colleague was being examined by a physician. Seconds! Here in NY that is unheard of. Already they had our respect and deep appreciation when they reacted so quickly knowing this woman had been suffering for so many hours already.
Dr. Anne Burns took excellent care of her and had her headed off to x-ray within minutes after a complete examination. She was extremely kind, and took the time to answer all questions. Unfortunately as we now know there were broken bones and she did have to be casted.
Damon Wheeler from H & H Orthopedics came in from another hospital to do the casting. He also did a great job and spent the time to answer all questions and to make sure she was as comfortable as possible.
The hospital was extremely clean, the staff incredibly pleasant and everything was done in a very organized manner. We were very impressed! Without a doubt we would all recommend this hospital and their staff to anyone!
