Beverly Carter; A Wake Up Call For Us All

Beverly CarterWhen I heard about Beverly Carter I was devastated on Thursday as we all were.  I had just taught our office safety class on Wednesday and came away from the class feeling good about all of the knowledge that was passed along.

Then on Friday as we waited for news about Beverly I realized we could give 100 safety classes but if agents are not following certain fundamentals of basic safety you are already putting yourself at risk each and every day.

The biggest defense in your personal safety is always TRUSTING YOUR GUT.  Your gut will give you clues you might otherwise never have noticedNever let embarrassment over that feeling in your gut stop you from backing away from a potentially dangerous situation.

Always have your clients come to the office first to meet you and to go over their information and their needs. This exposure to others in your office will deter anyone who is not serious about buying or who has a hidden agenda.

Having someone with you during Open Houses is a must.  Gone is the day of doing these events alone.  You can always find a co-worker, mortgage broker, insurance agent, family member etc...who will gladly do these events with you.

Never let someone block you in a driveway when you are showing a home.  Leave your car on the outside for a quick get-a-way if necessary.

There are so many more tips but I know after this weekend our offices nationwide will be providing them.  Also self defense classes are a huge help to your personal safety as well.

As I type this, it is with such a heavy heart for Beverly Carter and her family.  They will never recover from this devastation but we can take this as a reminder that we must be extra diligent with all clients whether male or female.  Please be safe with all clients and continue to take all precautions even 6 months from now...don't let your good sense fade away as time passes....Always remember....TRUST YOUR GUT!
