Curt and Deborah Sleeper have found themselves in the terrible position that many current homeowners have found themselves. They could lose their home, due to their mortgage balloon payment coming due on May 1. What is interesting about Curt and Deborah's home is that their home is built in a cave.
They lived in a tent in the cave while building the 15,000 sf house. Their occupancy inspection was approved on May 19, 2008. Geothermal and passive solar keep the home comfortable year-round without a furnace or air conditioning. The kitchen is top of the line and there is an indoor pool and beautiful waterfalls.
The cave is located on 2.8 scenic acres, just blocks from town. It is located in Festus, Missouri.
It really is quite beautiful inside, you can view pictures on Ebay. The auction ends on March 11 and currently there are no bids. Starting bid is $300,000.
What a unique and one-of-a-kind home this is. How sad that they are in this position.
Oh, one more thing...Deborah just had her third child, delivered in the cave, on February 19th.
